Expanding Storage Without Stopping Production. How CESCO Modernized Valman’s Cereal Plant.
A silo battery already in operation. A production plant that couldn’t pause. And a clear target: more storage capacity, better control, faster dosing.
That was the brief for the Valman project in Vicenza, Italy.
CESCO EPC extended an existing square silo battery with 16 new rectangular process bins, engineered to integrate directly into Valman Srl’s live production plant. A structural and functional continuation of what was already there.
Brownfield projects like this one carry a different kind of complexity than building from scratch. The new structure has to align with existing foundations, tie into current conveying routes, and keep the plant operational throughout construction. That requires the same rigor as a greenfield build: in-house structural calculation, precise sequencing, and a single team accountable for the entire scope.
The scope went beyond storage volume:
✔️ Integrated chain conveyors and dosing screw conveyors for controlled cereal handling
✔️ Ventilation channels for proper aeration across the extended battery
✔️ A product temperature monitoring system to track grain condition in real time
The result: increased storage capacity, improved homogenization, and precise dosing, within a plant that never stopped running.
This is what single-point EPC responsibility looks like in practice. One team designing the structural extension, the conveying integration, and the monitoring system together, because a silo battery behaves as one system, and it has to be engineered as one.
