The engineering behind modern grain handling
Every grain terminal is unique. The soil, the wind, and the logistics flow change every time. But according to Dr. Martino Celeghini, the principles of good design stay the same.
At the Future of Agriculture conference in SAUDI AGRICULTURE, he broke down what makes a modern plant work.
1️⃣ First, the layout matters.
Smart designs have fewer transfer points. This means less wear on the machines and less dust in the air. CESCO EPC uses wear-resistant linings like Hardox to keep things running longer.
2️⃣ Second, reliability is everything.
Martino calls it the “unstoppable plant” philosophy. We put dual motors on big conveyors. We build parallel lines. If one section needs maintenance, the terminal keeps running. No downtime.
3️⃣ Third, automation.
Sensors track everything: temperature, moisture, belt alignment. This data connects to systems that manage the whole process, from filling to fumigation.
It is safer, too. Gas-tight silos allow for chemical-free pest control, and enclosed conveyors keep the dust down. It is about building facilities that are safe, clean, and don’t stop.
